Visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay to the headquarters of OPANAL

On Tuesday, March 8, 2016, the Hon. Mr. Rodolfo Nin Novoa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, visited the headquarters of OPANAL where he had a meeting with Ambassador Luiz Filipe de Macedo Soares, Secretary General of OPANAL.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay reiterated his country's commitment to complying with the obligations of the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (Treaty of Tlatelolco). Likewise, Minister Nin Novoa expressed his interest in attending the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Tlatelolco, on February 13 and 14, 2017.

The Eastern Republic of Uruguay signed the Treaty of Tlatelolco on February 14, 1967 and ratified it, with a waiver, on August 20, 1968. In this way, Uruguay became one of the founding Member States of the Agency for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (OPANAL).
