On Tuesday, February 13, 2018, a special Meeting of the Council of OPANAL (currently composed of Argentina, Brazil, Guatemala, Peru and Uruguay) was held on the occasion of the visit of Dr. Antônio Augusto Cançado Trinidade, Judge of the Court International Justice, to the headquarters of the Organization.
The Members of the Council and other Member States of OPANAL heard from Judge Cançado Trinidade the judicial process undertaken by the Marshall Islands against nuclear weapon States due to their failure to comply with the obligation of nuclear disarmament established in Article VI of the Treaty on Non-nuclear Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
Judge Cançado Trinidade, former president of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, published the book in 2017 «The Universal Obligation of Nuclear Disarmament» that contains your dissenting vote in the International Court of Justice on the case submitted to the Court since 2014 by the Marshall Islands. The book can be downloaded for free.
