On March 25, 2025, the Secretary-General of OPANAL, Ambassador Flávio Roberto Bonzanini, received the visit of the Head of the Counter Proliferation and Arms Control Centre at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, Mrs. Rebecca Sagar.
During the meeting, Ambassador Bonzanini thanked Mrs. Rebecca Sagar for the interest of the United Kingdom in continuing with the ongoing dialogue with the Member States of OPANAL, as well as for sharing details on the United Kingdom national report for the third NPT Preparatory Committee, scheduled to take place in New York from 28 April to 9 May 2025.
Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation, including engaging during the upcoming NPT PrepCom.
The United Kingdom was the first nuclear-weapon State to sign and ratify Additional Protocols I and II of the Treaty of Tlatelolco, on 20 December 1967, and 11 December 1969, respectively.
