Secretariat


In accordance with Article 11 of the Treaty of Tlatelolco, the Secretariat is made up of a Secretary General, the highest official of OPANAL, and the personnel it requires. The Secretariat staff is appointed by the Secretary General, in accordance with the directives issued by the General Conference.

The Secretariat calls the meetings of the Counciland the General Conference. It presents reports to the OPANAL Bodies on the status of compliance with the obligations of the Treaty of Tlatelolco, on the activities of the Secretariat and on international debates on nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament.

The headquarters of the OPANAL Secretariat also functions as the institutional contact point for the Member States for discussion, exchange of opinions and for the articulation of joint positions on nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament.

Currently, the Secretary General is the Ambassador Flávio Roberto Bonzanini.
