Meeting of Ambassador Flávio Roberto Bonzanini, Secretary General of OPANAL, with Ambassador Mauro Vieira, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Brazil

On April 27, 2023, Ambassador Flávio Roberto Bonzanini, Secretary General of the Agency for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (OPANAL), held a working meeting with Ambassador Mauro Vieira, Minister of Foreign Affairs Foreign Affairs of Brazil.

During the meeting, both authorities discussed the current priorities for OPANAL, which include the substantive participation of OPANAL in various international meetings and forums, the efforts undertaken to establish a constructive dialogue with some States Parties to the Additional Protocols to the Treaty of Tlatelolco, relations with the other Nuclear Weapons Free Zones, the increase in Education activities on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation and the link with academia, the strengthening of the international presence and professionalization of the Secretariat.

Ambassador Bonzanini also thanked Brazil for its firm support and active participation in the work of OPANAL and its various bodies; during the General Conference, as a Member of the Council, for assuming the Presidency of the Committee on Contributions and Administrative and Budgetary Affairs (CCAAP) for two consecutive years (2022 and 2023), for being in charge of the coordination of OPANAL in New York uninterruptedly since 2016 to date, in addition to Brazil's substantive participation in the discussions and coordination of various technical groups established as subsidiary bodies.
