- OPANAL Secretary General, Ambassador Flávio Roberto Bonzanini, participates virtually in the commemorative event of the 15th Anniversary of the Central Asia Treaty establishing a nuclear-weapon-free zone in that region.
- OPANAL signs a Memorandum of Understanding with the States Parties to the Treaty establishing a nuclear-weapon-free zone in Central Asia.[1]
On December 5, 2024, the Secretary General of the Agency for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (OPANAL), Ambassador Flávio Roberto Bonzanini, participated virtually in the commemorative event of the fifteenth anniversary of the entry into force of the Central Asia Treaty.
The event was convened by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and was attended by States Parties to the Central Asian Treaty, as well as representatives of international organizations and other nuclear-weapon-free zones and Mongolia.
Also, within the framework of the commemorative event, a ceremony was held for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between OPANAL and the States Parties to the Central Asian Treaty. On behalf of the Central Asian Treaty, the MoU was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Mr. Rashid Meredov, and by the Secretary General, Ambassador Flávio Roberto Bonzanini, on behalf of OPANAL.
The MoU with Central Asia adds to the cooperation agreements previously signed with nuclear-weapon-free zones in the South Pacific (2003) and Africa (2021).
