Commemoration of the 55th Anniversary of the opening for signature of the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (Treaty of Tlatelolco) was opened for signature on 14 February 1967.

 On this occasion, the commemorative event organized by the OPANAL Secretariat and the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, included among its participants: Mr. Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Ms. Martha Delgado Peralta, Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), Amb. Flávio Roberto Bonzanini, Secretary-General of the Agency for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (OPANAL) and delegations of the Member States, the States Parties to the Additional Protocols to the Treaty of Tlatelolco, and representatives of civil society.

The event, which took place on 14 February 2022, at the Mexican Foreign Ministry, included statements by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, the Secretary-General of OPANAL, the Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission of the CTBTO, Ambassador Oscar Lorenzo Arnold, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belize in Mexico, as the current Chairperson of the OPANAL Council, delivered the communiqué that, as every year, was agreed upon by the 33 Member States of OPANAL.
