Seminar “Towards a World Without Nuclear Weapons”

 

From 7 to 8 December 2017, Ambassador Luiz Filipe de Macedo Soares, Secretary-General of OPANAL, participated in the Seminar Towards a world without nuclear weapons: challenges and perspectives”, held in Brasilia. The Seminar was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil and the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation.

Ambassador Macedo Soares made a presentation entitled "The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and its discontents" for the panel "Impact of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons on the NPT regime". 

The Seminar had two additional panels: "ABACC and the IAEA verification regime" and "The NPT: the 2020 Review Conference and Beyond". Participants included high officials and diplomats from Brazil, Argentina, France, Iran, South Africa, Ambassador Sergio de Queiroz Duarte, President of Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, among others.

The presentations delivered during the Seminar will be published by the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation.
